Thanks for the response yesterday. Despite a few technical challenges, we had 28 people check in to our "collaborative tagging" framework on http://focalpoint.us

Later today, I expect to post another invitation, formatted slightly differently, maybe with greater chance of getting through spam/junk filters. The prettier the email, the more likely gmail or yahoo will see it as commercial spam. So, keep trying different approaches...

The big challenge we are facing today -- involves seeing the world in a fully holistic or "integral" way. We are evolving from a world civilization composed of independent sectors that have evolved separately, each specializing in some way, barely interacting with one another, to a kind of universal global civilization, where all the facets of every culture become an influence, all interacting and influencing one another in the common market of this new world.

And this is not about about "ethnic" or "religious" or "cultural" kinds of things. It's not only "intercultural" -- it's also "interdisciplinary" -- and what we might call "inter-sector".

What is the relationship between the sciences and the arts?

What is the relationship between spirituality and religion?

What is the relationship between spiritual/religion and politics/governance?

What is the relationship between energy and ecology and economics?

These are huge questions -- and the human race has no clear answers on these issues.

Do we need them?

I got a message this morning from the Charter for Compassion (originated by Karen Armstrong), which I understand is developing transformative social activism around these themes, in the Seattle Washington area -- and all over the world.

And I include a couple of screen shots from their message and web site.

This first one shows the "jigsaw puzzle" image that we see everywhere, and that I have been following.

And the second -- which I marked up with some red underlining -- lists some of the "sectors" that they are bringing together.

These are basically the same sectors we are drawing together through our "Collaborative Tagging" framework.

Their "sectors" -- almost the same as ours:

  • Business
  • Healthcare
  • Education
  • Government
  • Faith and interfaith (and interspirituality)
  • Peace and non-violence
  • The arts
  • Environment and ecology

The Charter for Compassion is a great initiative -- and it is part of a big global movement that is doing everything possible to "combine sectors" -- because something very primal and profound in the spirit of humanity -- knows we must do this.

In our Collaborative Tagging framework -- we are outlining the core logic that can wire this movement together, in every direction, across every sector.

There IS a powerful and compelling "integral" movement -- that combines these sectors, that crosses traditional borders that divide not only the human community but also the human mind into disjunct categories that can't communicate with one another -- that are not part of a common whole.

But the reality is -- there IS one wholeness that contains reality -- and our concept systems are failing us.

This morning, I heard US Congressman (woman) Rosa Delauro (D-CT) talk about the "public health infrastructure crisis" having to do with our collective inability to deal with Ebola.

She explicitly used the word "infrastructure".

This is only one of hundreds of interconnected issues that our present system cannot cleanly address. We are stuck in hundreds of interconnected ways, all of which are highly inefficient and confused and fragmented -- and which are collectively becoming increasingly dangerous in an accelerating way.

We need -- we absolutely need -- strong clear integral vision. We need a way to "put the pieces together". We need a common wholeness and common ground.

We need to understand this -- we need to see it clearly -- we need a "technology" -- a method -- to find these pieces from everywhere and put them together -- and we need a net-weaving collaborative process that actually does it.

Right now -- we are still in a design stage. But the potential for activism is growing quickly.

What about an outreach to every organization out there that is doing something like the Charter for Compassion?

We need to contact these groups -- and listen to them -- get their unique perspective and skill-set into a collective/collaborative framework.

This IS something we can do. It almost certainly is something we SHOULD do.

We need an infrastructure for public health -- and we need it for global warming -- and we need it for the global economy -- and we need it for the huge rich/poor economic disparity gap.

We can build this if we make up our mind -- if we get past our scattered confusion and our partial personal visions, and reach out to one another, and listen in a spirit of true co-creativity.

And we can take a big chunk out of this process through this very simple but highly potent "collaborative tagging" framework. This is the core logic that can hear everything, absorb everything, find a place for everything. We can find that full inclusion, and we can find that balance. It's in us to do this.
